By January this year, over 400 000 students enrolled at more than 50 Technical and Vocational Education and Training Colleges (TVET) around the country. The colleges provide hands-on training and practical experience in a variety of vocational and artisan fields, such as engineering, construction, business studies, tourism and hospitality. Over the years, TVETs have transformed to become a major contributor of the country’s economy by providing much-needed skills in the workforce. Over 90 percent of TVET college students are also benefiting from NSFAS bursaries. We reflect on the many opportunities and experiences TVET colleges offer.
