JOSHCO and CJC Join Forces to Address Youth Unemployment
The Johannesburg Social Housing Company (JOSHCO) has partnered with Central Johannesburg TVET College through a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at providing students with practical workplace experience. Signed at CJC’s head office in Parktown, the agreement seeks to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the workplace while improving students’ skills and employment prospects.
The agreement builds on JOSHCO’s commitment made at the Youth in Construction Summit to equip young people with essential skills and expand opportunities for their development.
“Youth unemployment remains one of South Africa’s greatest socio-economic challenges, and partnerships such as this are critical in changing that reality. Every young person deserves an opportunity to gain experience, develop their skills and realise their potential,” said JOSHCO acting Chief Executive Officer Katlego Ditshego.
”By creating opportunities for experiential learning, we are investing in their future and contributing to the development of a skilled, work-ready generation that will help build our city and our country,” Ditshego added.
The partnership will provide eligible students with practical training at JOSHCO, equipping them with workplace skills and experience to improve their readiness for employment.
CJC will oversee student placements and track their progress, while JOSHCO will offer practical training and mentorship. College Council Chairperson Dr P. Mokgobu highlighted the importance of such partnerships in tackling youth unemployment. “By creating pathways from education to employment, JOSHCO and Central Johannesburg TVET College are not only investing in students but also helping to shape a more inclusive and prosperous future for all.”
The partnership aims to prepare students for the job market by providing the practical experience needed to secure employment. JOSHCO views youth development as a key driver of economic growth and is committed to helping young people gain the skills and experience needed to build successful careers and contribute to the economy.
